Commemorate DC

Brick & Story supported the DC Office of Planning (OP) and AECOM community engagement, including commemoration tours, visioning workshops, and design workshops for Commemorate DC in sites in Wards 4, 5, 7 and 8. Commemorate DC is an opportunity to support local partners championing commemorative works projects and to increase commemoration of Black Washingtonians and other leaders of color in all Wards of the District.

The initial Visioning workshops focused on better understanding (1) stakeholders’ ideas for best representing the chosen commemorative subjects, (2) neighborhood and site considerations, and (3) preferred commemorative works forms. Once preliminary concepts had been designed, community members then had the opportunity to share input on these initial concepts in Design workshops.
