Brick & Story, in partnership with SmithGroup, supported the DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency of DC (HSEMA) to provide community engagement services on the updates to their Climate Ready DC and Resilient DC plans. Brick & Story executed a robust engagement strategy that included pop-ups, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and city-wide workshops, as well as online engagement tools, including a survey. SmithGroup supported the design and development of five (5) StoryMaps that will serve as the plan updates, data visualization, and graphic design support services and throughout the course of the project.

These engagement efforts targeted populations across all 8 Wards of the District, with a focus on Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8. Targeted stakeholders included low-income residents, residents living in communities of the District that are experiencing severe climate impacts such as heat island effect and flooding, seniors, renters, residents of Wards 7 and 8, Latino residents, residents with physical disabilities, and outdoor workers.
